Kansas Avenue church brings "Joy to the World!"

The season was never celebrated more gloriously at the Riverside Kansas Avenue Church on Dec. 22, when the Music Department presented its annual Christmas Musical Worship Service.  Against the thematic backdrop of “Joy to the World,” the program featured outstanding seasonal music by every musical entity of the church, including the Inspiration Choir, the Chamber Chorale, KAYC (youth/young adult choir), the Children’s Choir and hand-praise troupe, various vocal ensembles, soloists, and instrumentalists.

The diverse repertoire was a unique blend of traditional and contemporary selections, interspersed with “messages from the manger,” a compilation of narratives recounting the birth of Jesus, the Reason for the season. The program culminated with glorious congregational hymns of the season—accompanied by organ, brass, and timpani—as well as a robust mass choir performance of two versions of the iconic Hallelujah Chorus . . . the timeless original score by G.F. Handel and the popular contemporary arrangement by Mervyn Warren from the Soulful Messiah.

After summing up the nativity message, Senior Pastor Ainsworth Keith Morris hailed the program as “an engaging worshipful experience that portrayed both talent and spiritual gifting. It was coordinated with excellence and balance to utilize different music genre to give a unique perspective of the timeless story of our redeemer’s birth” and went on to commend Music Ministry Leader Linda Evans for organizing and executing such a mega-scale presentation.

“Praise God for the glorious grace He has poured out upon us through the birth of His dear son, Jesus Christ,” he said before a packed sanctuary of hundreds of blessed worshipers.
